Lead maintenance engineering technicians typically perform a multi-disciplinary role, managing or leading other technicians. They may specialise in areas such as mechanical, electronic, or electrical engineering. Employers range from small to large businesses who deliver or require maintenance support. They include major asset owners and operators, the supply chain, contractors and sub-contractors. 

Producing detailed engineering designs and drawings for components and systems. Typical roles include electrical, control and instrumentation, and mechanical design, supporting product development and engineering operations.

Carrying out manufacturing activities across multiple products and processes, supporting efficient production through safe working practices, quality control, and continuous improvement within a lean environment.

Producing, assembling and installing high‑value, low‑volume engineering components and equipment, ensuring precision, quality and reliability within manufacturing and engineering environments

Supporting the maintenance and reliability of specialist medical equipment, ensuring safe and effective operation of devices critical to healthcare delivery and patient care environments.

Setting up, operating and monitoring machine tools to produce precision components, ensuring accuracy, quality and efficiency throughout the manufacturing process.

Maintaining and improving complex automated systems, combining mechanical, electrical, electronic and control skills to support installation, fault finding, repair and planned maintenance activities.

Supporting and engaging with different parts of the organisation and interact with internal or external customers.

Dealing with customer queries, purchases and complaints.

Providing customer service products and services for businesses and other organisations including face-to-face, telephone, digital and written contact and communications.
