Course Overview
Our Defibrillator (AED) Training & CPR Awareness course provides clear, practical instruction in recognising cardiac arrest and delivering essential life‑saving intervention.
Learners are introduced to the critical steps required when a casualty is unresponsive and not breathing normally, including when and how to deliver CPR and operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The course combines concise theory with hands‑on demonstrations, giving participants the confidence to use an AED safely, understand voice prompts, apply pads correctly and deliver a controlled electric shock when required. Training also reinforces how CPR and defibrillation work together, helping learners respond quickly, calmly and effectively in the vital moments before emergency services arrive.
This course is designed for current holders of the First Aid at Work certificate. It covers the necessary theory backed up with practical sessions allowing delegates to practice their newly acquired skills and support employers in meeting their first aid responsibilities and aligns with current Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance for workplace first aid training.
During this course you will learn
- How to recognise cardiac arrest and assess responsiveness
- Safe operation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- How to follow AED voice prompts and pad‑placement instructions
- How to combine CPR with AED use effectively
- Troubleshooting common AED issues (battery, pad contact, analysis)
- Safety considerations during defibrillation
- Immediate post‑shock care and monitoring
This course is ideal for anyone who may need to use an AED at work or in a public setting, including designated first aiders and emergency responders.
Your course will be delivered by one of SIGTA’s experienced first aid instructors. Each bringing real‑world emergency‑response knowledge and a supportive teaching style to help you build confidence and competence.
